Located in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Wilson's Pimple Loop is a scenic, dog-friendly hike approximately 30 minutes west of Las Vegas. Also known as Potato Knoll, this lesser-known trail offers beautiful views of towering red sandstone cliffs, open desert landscapes, and the surrounding Spring Mountains.

The 4.7-mile loop has approximately 650 feet of elevation gain and is considered moderately challenging. The trail winds through the Mojave Desert toward the base of Mt. Wilson, passing through rocky terrain, sandy washes, and areas of desert vegetation. A seasonal creek and occasional shaded sections provide a welcome change from the open desert. Some portions of the trail can be difficult to follow, so downloading a trail map beforehand is recommended.

Free parking is available at the South Oak Creek Trailhead along Highway 159, outside the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive fee area. Parking is limited, and there are no restrooms or drinking water available at the trailhead, so be sure to bring plenty of water for yourself and your dog.

For dog owners searching for scenic hikes near Las Vegas, Wilson's Pimple Loop is a wonderful option during the cooler months. With its dramatic mountain backdrop, quieter trails, and beautiful desert scenery, it's an excellent place to explore Red Rock Canyon with your dog without the crowds of more popular hiking destinations.

Located near Boulder City in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Historic Railroad Trail is one of the most unique dog-friendly hikes near Las Vegas. Once used to transport materials during the construction of Hoover Dam, this historic route features five massive railroad tunnels carved through the mountainside, with sweeping views of Lake Mead and the surrounding desert.

The 7.5-mile out-and-back trail is rated easy, with minimal elevation change and a wide, relatively flat gravel path. You don't have to complete the entire trail to enjoy its scenery, making it a great option for dogs of different fitness levels. The historic tunnels provide a dramatic contrast to the open desert landscape, while the elevated trail offers beautiful views of the lake.

Free trailhead parking is available along Lakeshore Road, just below the Lake Mead Visitor Center. Amenities include restrooms and trash receptacles at the trailhead, with drinking water available at the nearby visitor center.

For dog owners looking for easy, scenic hikes near Las Vegas, the Historic Railroad Trail is particularly enjoyable during the cooler months. With very little shade along much of the route, it's best to avoid hiking here during the summer heat.

The area consists of Upper and Lower Lee Meadows, covering approximately half a mile of open space where visitors can wander, explore, and enjoy the surrounding scenery. With no designated hiking route or significant elevation gain, it's an easy option for dogs of all ages and fitness levels.
