Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail, Lake Mead National Recreation Area Photograph taken at Historic Railroad Trail, Lake Mead, Las Vegas. To learn more about portrait sessions, please click here. Google Map for parking spaces: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7CdqrLXaTHC8dUAy9 AllTrails Overview: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/nevada/railroad-tunnel-trail Located near Boulder City in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Historic Railroad Trail is one of the most unique dog-friendly hikes near Las Vegas. Once used to transport materials during the construction of Hoover Dam, this historic route features five massive railroad tunnels carved through the mountainside, with sweeping views of Lake Mead and the surrounding desert. The 7.5-mile out-and-back trail is rated easy, with minimal elevation change and a wide, relatively flat gravel path. You don't have to complete the entire trail to enjoy its scenery, making it a great option for dogs of different fitness levels. The historic tunnels provide a dramatic contrast to the open desert landscape, while the elevated trail offers beautiful views of the lake. Free trailhead parking is available along Lakeshore Road, just below the Lake Mead Visitor Center. Amenities include restrooms and trash receptacles at the trailhead, with drinking water available at the nearby visitor center. For dog owners looking for easy, scenic hikes near Las Vegas, the Historic Railroad Trail is particularly enjoyable during the cooler months. With very little shade along much of the route, it's best to avoid hiking here during the summer heat. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6a61d29a46b9c919820e0b6c/00527932-adef-41a4-be6a-ac231691c968/rebecca-goessing-desert-dog-photography-las-lvegas-06.jpg News - 5 Scenic Dog-Friendly Hikes in Las Vegas Photograph taken along edge of Lee Meadows at Mount Charleston, Las Vegas.
